Carolyn Carver

Bio

I retired from the DSSO,  the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra but I  still perform with Helmi Harrington of the Accordion Museum in Superior. I teach private and group lessons, play for different churches and play for weddings,

receptions, funerals and special occasions. I also have created many musical arrangements for my students and for

different school groups.  I believe that music is the spirit and language of the soul.  I want everyone I teach to realize

their full potential.  I am firmly committed to battle to keep music alive by presenting opportunities to take private and

group lessons.  I believe in music education and will do all I can to help keep music alive in the schools as well as in

after school programs.

My name is Carolyn Carver and I am a musician(professional violinist, pianist and violist.  I have 6 children, multiple grandchildren and new great grandchildren.  I received a Bachelor of Music Degree in violin performance from USC in Los

Angeles, a Master's of Arts from San Francisco State University in Violin performance and a minor in piano.  I also took numerous Education classes from University of California(Berkeley) in order to obtain three life teaching credentials(elementary, secondary and junior college.  I taught in Vallejo, California for 6 years and was laid off with tenure

because they cancelled the elementary string program.  I moved to Davis, California and taught 5 years and was again laid off

with tenure due to extensive cuts dealt by the passage of proposition 13.  I moved to Eugene, Oregon and completed all the

coursework in music education and music history.  I completed all the recitals for a Doctorate in Violin Performance.  I also

taught strings in the public schools in Eugene until, again, I was laid off with tenure, because they cancelled the elementary

strings program.  I moved to Minnesota in 1990 and found that with all of my years of teaching and some 275 units past a

Master's degree, I was overqualified and therefore unemployable in the public schools.(too expensive)  I ended up teaching in

the John Duss Music Conservatory and giving private lessons  in several venues including my home. I have also performed

with several symphony orchestras since I was in high school. (Napa Symphony, Vallejo Symphony, Stockton Symphony,

Davis Chamber Orchestra, Eugene Symphony and the DSSO.
